1) What can I do if I did not file the FAFSA?
You were not considered for federal financial aid because you did not file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To request consideration for aid for the current year, see How to Apply for more information. If you did not file the 2009-2010 FAFSA, you can complete and submit this form by June 30, 2010, in order to be considered for federal financial aid beginning summer 2008. Be sure to answer item #26 about what types of student aid interest you. Please enter "1" if you only want work-study, "2" if you only want loans, or "3" if you want both. If you filed the 2009-2010 FAFSA, but did not indicate you wanted these aid programs, please contact the financial aid office or your regional campus or ATI financial aid office to initiate the application process. When applying for these programs past your priority deadline, funds will be awarded only on a funds-available basis. The priority deadline is March 1st.

4) What if my aid does not appear on my Statement of Account?
If any of your financial aid does not appear on your Statement of Account, don't panic! Your aid may still post to your account before your fees are due. You can check on the status of your financial aid online.
To find out whether your aid posted to your Statement of Account, you may check with the Treasurer's Office at www.treasurer.ohio-state.edu/account_state/index.html. If you are not able to resolve your questions by these means, feel free to call the OSFA directly to find out what you need to do.

5) Is my financial aid taxable?
6) How do I get aid again for next year?
Financial aid is awarded annually. You must apply each year. Enrolled undergraduates, graduate students, and professional students (in Dentistry, Medicine, Optometry, Veterinary Medicine, Law, and PHP Pharmacy) begin the application process by completing and submitting the following before the March 1 deadline:
-
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal FAFSA to the U.S. Department of Education. The preferred method of filing the FAFSA is through online submission from the U.S. Department of Education's FAFSA website at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you would prefer to complete a paper FAFSA, please print a copy from the Department of Education's website. For assistance in filing the FAFSA, access studentaid.ed.gov/students/publications/completing_fafsa/index.html.
-
The Scholarship Application: If you wish to be considered for special-eligibility and/or academic-based-only scholarships and Cooperative Scholarship Housing, see Applying for Scholarships for instructions and a link to the Application for Special Scholarships.
-
Summer Aid: If you are an enrolled undergraduate or graduate student and you register for summer quarter classes and have filed the 2009-2010 FAFSA, OSFA will assume that you would like to receive financial aid. No special application or notification to our office is required. Professional students will be awarded based on their college's academic schedule.
- Remember! Late applicants will be awarded on a funds-available basis, so be sure to apply by your priority deadline! The amount of financial aid awarded may vary each year according to your need, the type of aid you are requesting, your academic performance, and available funding.
