Online Job Search Troubleshooting Solutions

Problem: The system won't let me log in using my Social Security number as my user name and GOBUCKS as my password.

Solution: You will only be allowed to access the system if you have an accepted Federal Work-Study award and are eligible to receive federal financial aid. If you can't log in, check online to be sure that you have been awarded and have accepted Federal Work-Study, that you are not on Cancellation or Termination Status, and that you have no outstanding To Do items to complete.

If you are currently on Cancellation or Termination Status, you will not be able to log in to the system until you regain a status under which you are eligible to receive federal financial aid.

If you have an award, but you have outstanding checklists, you will be unable to log in until you have completed all requirements for aid eligibility.  You may be required to submit documentation for verification or to complete loan exit counseling to be eligible to receive aid.

Problem: I changed my password when I initially logged in, but I have forgotten it. What do I do?

Solution: E-mail us at sfa-jobs@osu.edu from your own osu.edu e-mail account and request your password, including your name and SSN in the e-mail. We will respond to you at your osu.edu e-mail address within 2-3 working days.

Problem: Every time I log in to the system using my Social Security number as my user name and GOBUCKS as my password, the system returns me to the login page.

Solution: Your browser is probably not set to accept cookies. This job site keeps track of the fact that you logged in by storing a "cookie" file on your PC. Whenever you go to a new page, it checks that cookie to be sure it is still you making the request. This way no one can "bookmark" or otherwise go directly to a page inside the site without first logging in.

Here are the directions to change the security settings so that you can use the site.

To enable cookies in Internet Explorer 5: Note: The default setting is medium security and cookies enabled. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options and then the Security tab. Select the Custom Level button and scroll to the Cookies section. Select enable for both items listed. Then select OK to close the Custom Level window. Select OK to close the Internet Options window.

To enable cookies in Internet Explorer 6: Note: The default setting is medium security and cookies enabled. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options and then the Privacy tab. If the privacy-setting slider is set to "Block All Cookies", you will not be able to log in. Set the slider to a lower privacy level, then select OK to close the Internet Options window.

To enable cookies in Netscape 4: Note: The default setting is medium security and cookies enabled. From the Edit menu, select Preferences and then Advanced. In the cookies section select Accept all cookies. Then select OK to close the window. Once you have gotten into the site and are at the main menu page, you can change your password (right now it's GOBUCKS) by clicking on "Personal File" and changing the password field, then clicking on "Save & Exit."

Problem: Every time I log in to the system using my Social Security number as my user name and GOBUCKS as my password, the system returns me to the login page. I have set my browser to accept cookies as directed above.

Solution: Check your computer's clock. If the clock's AM/PM setting is not correct (i.e., your computer shows it is 2:00 AM when it is really 2:00 PM) our system's server will assume you have been logged in for 12 hours and log you back out. Set your computer's clock to the correct AM/PM setting.

Problem: When I enter search criteria and click on "Search," no jobs meeting my criteria are displayed.

Solution: Your search criteria may be too specific. Try entering only one or two criteria (for example, Location and Position Type) to see if you can get a wider selection of jobs. If you have the exact job number, it works best to enter ONLY the job number in the Job ID field on the "Advanced Search" screen. To completely delete any search criteria you have previously entered, click the "Reset" button at the bottom of the screen.
